BUNAKHA HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

(120 MW) BUNAKHA/GELING, BHUTAN

The Bunakha HEP is a proposed 180 MW project located near the villages of Bunakha and Geling. The Project is envisioned to be the most-upstream component of a cascade of at least four projects along the Wangchhu River. The four projects are intended to operate in an integrated fashion, with Bunakha HEP serving as the large storage reservoir operating in a peaking fashion but providing more reliable dry season flows so as to increase the power generation of the three ownstream projects by a total of 932 GWh per year.
