Contract Management and Related Works for Construction of Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project (DWRI/SMDMP/CS-01/2076-77)

Sindhuli

April 2022 – Ongoing

Department of Water Resources and Irrigation under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation

The work involves design review, construction supervision, quality control, project management, construction and contract management. SMDMP aims at producing hydropower and providing irrigation facility in the southern plains of Province 2. The project plan includes construction of barrage across the Sunkoshi River to divert 67 Cumecs water through a 13.1 km concrete lined tunnel to be constructed by using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) followed by a surface powerhouse positioned on the Marin River in Kusumtar of Kamalamai Municipality, Sindhuli District. The diverted water along with available head between the intake and powerhouse will be utilized to produce 28.62 MW hydropower. The water downstream of the tailrace flows through the Marin River down to Bagmati river. The discharge of Bagmati River will be augmented by a more or less constant quantity diverted from Sunkoshi River which will facilitate a year-round irrigation in about 122,000 hectares of irrigable land in Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusa districts

Feasibility Study of Dams in Dang Valley

Dang

October 2017-July 2019

Mega Dang Valley Irrigation Project

Carried out detailed hydrological study of the five rivers; catchment characteristics, drainage system, water-uses, and water availabilty. Conducted geological and geo-technical investigation of the area. This included geo-technical investigations at the dam sites of the proposed diversion projects (220 m of boring). Assessed the availabilty of potential construction materials and seismicity of the area. Prepared socio-economic profile of the area to ensure social safeguard, environmental study and prepared agricultural development plan. Proposed diversion plan for the irrgation development that included 5 dams of differing heights from 15 m to 125 m. Conducted design of 5 dams: 3 of moderate heights as Earthen dams and 2 as Clay Core Rockfill Dam.

1. Dam at Vutiya Tal-15 m (Earthen Dam)

2. Dam at Ranighat Khola-43 m (Earthen Dam)

3. Dam At Balim Khola-70 m (Clay Core Rockfill Dam)

4. Dam at Vitri Khola-29 m (Earthen Dam)

5. Dam at Gwar Khola-125 m (Clay Core Rockfill Dam)

Conducted Initial Environmental Examination (IEE).

Conducted detailed cost estimate.

Prepared design drawings, and conducted economic and financial analysis.
